Hurricane UT Overview
Located in Washington County, Utah, Hurricane, pronounced “her-ah-cun” by the locals, has experienced quite a population explosion since the 1970s, so much so that its boundaries have become blurred with its neighbor, St.George. The town sits at the foot of Hurricane Ridge on the western edge of the Colorado Plateau.
Named for a whirlwind which blew off the top of a buggy owned by Erastus Snow and in which he was riding, Snow was quick to declare that surely it was a hurricane that had passed over and he named the community Hurricane Hill.
