St. George Events
St. George, Utah offers many events for visitors and residents. “Downtown Thursday Night” is free and open to all. It is a community celebration of local arts and entertainment. Each month specific themes are presented which will keep your family entertained.
Some of the annual events in St. George include the Art Festival which takes place on Easter Weekend, the Dixie Round up in September, and the St. George Marathon in October.
The Art Festival takes place on Main Street and appeals to both the artists and the festival goers alike. Over 110 artists are featured at this festival and given this opportunity to showcase their artistry in thousands of pieces of original artwork. The pageantry of the festival is augmented by scheduled concerts on three separate stages. The City of St. George has several award-winning restaurants and the aromas and distinctive flavors of the cuisines can be found along the Festival causeway.
The St. George Marathon
This annual event, held in October, welcomes over 6,000 runners from all over the world. It’s the fifteenth largest marathon in the US. Beginning in the Pine Valley Mountains, the route descends about 2,600 feet ,winding through scenic sandstone cliffs and ancient lava flows, and continues to the center of St. George itself. This marathon course has been USA Track & Field certified and sanctioned and is listed in Runner’s World as one of the “10 most scenic and fastest fall marathons.”
Dixie Rotary Bowl
As one of the top-rated Junior College football games, the St. George Rotary Club sponsors an annual event the first Saturday in December and invites the best two junior colleges to a head-to-head competition in the Hansen Stadium. Some of the Dixie Bowl Festival activities include a golf tournament and a banquet whose guest speaker is from the sporting community. There are also marching band competitions and a parade to celebrate this festival.
“First Night”
Billed as the best in family-friendly fun and entertainment, First Night is St. George’s New Year’s Eve celebration and is held on Main Street. Many organizations in St. George come together for this celebration which includes street mimes and clowns as well as children’s games, hip-hop music, and much more flowing throughout the downtown area. There is great food at the food booths and a spectacular fireworks display caps off the celebration as the New Year is welcomed in style.
There are many other activities held throughout the year for visitors and residents alike to come together for fun and entertainment. These activities help to build a strong bond in the community.
