St. George UT Overview
Brigham Young, the famous Mormon leader sent a group of men to the far corner of the Utah Territory to grow cotton, grapes and harvest silk for export to Northern States suffering from the ravages of the Civil War. These businesses are now gone, but plenty of newer, more modern and successful businesses have moved in to take their place.
St. George, which is Washington County’s largest city, joins several smaller communities that lay along Interstate 15. Washington County is one of the nation’s fastest growing communities due primarily to its location on one of the nation’s major north-south routes linking California with places like Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO, and Albuquerque, NM. A very scenic area, St. George provides easy access to major markets in the west and thus, has become a popular destination for people and business looking for a better life and prosperous business growth opportunities.
Rand McNally, AARP, and others have selected this area as one of the best communities in the country to retire. Young working families are drawn by one of the nations most stable and reliable work forces. And they all come for the climate, beautiful scenery, a pro-family atmosphere, not to mention a growing job market, competitive housing costs and low crime rate.
St. George/Washington County, UT Education
Education always has been foremost with Washington County residents. In fact, education was conducted in wagons and temporary shelters before the towns were actually built. Today, the Washington County School District consists of 19 elementary, 4 middle, and 6 high schools and is responsible for educating over 18,000 students. Due to the rapid growth within the District, however, elementary and middle school students are on a “tracked” year-round school schedule. Three tracks are in session at one time with the fourth off and are cycled that students attend school for 45 days and then are off for 15 days. The high school students have a regular August to May class attendance schedule.
St. George Real Estate
For quite some time, The Southern Utah Home Builders Association has been concerned with constructing homes and businesses that are environmentally responsible. Members of this association have put this philosophy into action and St. George real estate includes homes for sale that have been built using “green” resources which significantly reduce the negative impact on the environment. These “green building” practices contribute to more economic and healthier homes for your family.
