1. Golf
Washington County, UT has an average of 300 days a year of sunshine which helps to make it the perfect destination for golfers. The mild climate makes year round golfing possible at ten highly acclaimed golf courses with great diversity in challenges and golfing enjoyment.
2. Snow Canyon Park
Hiking, biking, camping, photography. There are plenty of activities offered in Snow Canyon Park. Photographers will love taking photographs of the Red Navajo sandstone that is overlaid with black lava rock against a backdrop of clear blue skies.
3. Historic Pioneer Sites
Among the many historic sites is St. George Tabernacle. Restored in 1993, it seats 1,200 and is open for church services as well as other functions. The clock below the spire of the church was built by Thwaites and Reed, the oldest clockmakers in the world who also maintain Big Ben in London.
Jacob Hamblin House is the home of an early convert to Mormonism who was one of several missionaries sent out by Brigham Young to create settlements in the far corners of the Utah Territory. His home has been restored and filled with many artifacts that are examples of pioneer life. The Hamblin home is now open to tours.
4. Sand Hollow
Sand Hollow is a new reservoir at the base of Sand Mountain which is located between the towns of St. George and Hurricane. Sand Hollow has campgrounds for RVs and tent camping, picnic areas, sunbathing on beaches, boating, or fishing for bass and bluegill on the reservoir.
5. Pine Valley Mountains
Pine Valley is a small mountain range that rises 10,365 feet above the nearby desert. Pine Valley offers several trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding and also has several camping areas for fishing opportunities. Hunting is also popular in Pine Valley. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing can be added to the list of popular activities for this area.
6. The Tuacahn Center for the Arts
The Tuacahn Center for the Arts has a 42,000 square foot facility featuring a 330-seat indoor theater, a dance studio, a recital hall, a gift shop and more. It was built to compliment the 1920-seat outdoor amphitheatre. In recent years Tuacahn has expanded its offerings to include various musicals. Performances run from June to Labor Day weekend each year.
7. Green Valley Mountain Biking Trail
If mountain biking is one of your favorite outdoor activities. you will find that the Green Vally Mountain Bike Trail is a popular BMX course. The trail is six miles long and winds around high climbs and through narrow canyons enclosed by sheer sandstone walls. The views on the first part of the trail are awe-inspiring. However, all your attention is required to negotiate the second part of the trail. Many challenges on this trail offer you the ride of your life!
8. Dinosaur Walkway Site
The Johnson Farm Dinosaur Walkway has some of the oldest dinosaur tracks in the world. More than 1,000 tracks have been found within a 10-acre area. The Dinosaur Walk is just minutes from downtown St. George, UT.
